Donor Services

“The Grant family counts on CCT’s expertise to make sure our dollars will be put to the very best use to conserve what is precious about Colorado – they haven’t let us down.”

Pat Grant
President of the National Western Stock Show and donor to the Grant Family Donor Advised Fund at the Colorado Conservation Trust

The Colorado Conservation Trust provides a wide range of services to fulfill your philanthropic goals.  By setting up a fund or providing an unrestricted gift to CCT, you can be as active as you like in your philanthropy, or as "hands off". In either case, you will be making a gift that ensures that land protection takes place in an area regardless of which specific tool is needed or which conservation organization is carrying out the work on the ground. In many places, several groups are working toward the same broader land protection goals using different methods, and a donation to a single organization or single project, while important, may not help achieve the longer term and broader land protection goals.

Strategic Conservation Planning Services
Conservation funders who want to make a significant difference often need advice in order to find the most strategic or highest-leveraged investments.  CCT can provide its expertise in conservation and Colorado, working with you and your financial or legal advisors to define your charitable goals and identify areas of philanthropic interest.

CCT helps you determine the most effective vehicle for your charitable giving - a program or area specific fund, a donor advised fund, a field of interest fund, or an unrestricted gift.

Management Services
CCT can work directly with individuals or foundations to provide them with a broad range of services related to conservation. These include program development, project selection, grantmaking, project evaluation. In this model, the donor retains the funding and CCT’s work is solely focused on the development and implementation of the conservation goals identified by the donor.

CCT can substantially reduce your administrative burden by taking care of all grant administration, post-grant evaluation, and filings with the IRS and other reporting requirements.

Project Implementation & Grantmaking Services
In this case, CCT carries out the specific grantmaking functions of a donor who had already decided what he/she would like to do. The scope of work is fairly narrow as the donor handles his investment and program development and contracts with CCT to carry out the program.

CCT provides expertise in grantmaking, due diligence and knowledge of the full range of needs, opportunities and organizations working in land conservation across the state.  The professional staff does extensive grant review, site visit work, and post grant evaluation.  CCT ensures that all grant recipients meet tax deductibility tests and are capable of accomplishing the land protection project and is doing so in concert with other organizations as part of a larger land protection strategy.  CCT keeps each donor apprised of land conservation needs and project accomplishments on a regular basis.

With 30 years of combined expertise in land conservation, transactions, and grantmaking, you can be assured that your gifts will be channeled quickly and effectively to the organizations you want to help - with the minimum administrative burden.

Leveraging Your Investment
We increase the dollars available for conservation by working one-on-one with philanthropists.  We help donors explore different opportunities and identify projects that meet their goals.  By combining resources from many donors, we are able to design highly leveraged funding opportunities - a donor’s gift can stimulate investments that are 5 to 10 times the size of the original gift and accomplish larger conservation goals than the donor could achieve on his own.
