Regional Conservation Investment Packages
CCT’s Strategic Grants Program strives to maximize the conservation impact and leverage of its grant funds.  The $1.66 million CCT has invested in Regional Conservation Investment Packages has funded a full range of land protection approaches - land acquisition and stewardship, planning, public policy development, and organizational capacity building for local land trusts.  Each Regional Conservation Investment Package is tailored to meet the needs of each geographical area.

The Colorado Conservation Trust (CCT) has developed a unique approach to building conservation capacity within a community and achieving lasting conservation results.  Our goal is to preserve open land in Colorado and help build the conservation infrastructure of leadership, organizations, institutions, plans, and policies to ensure sustainable conservation programs in communities throughout the state.

CCT Priority Areas
CCT focuses its resources on regions that have high conservation value and the right mix of need and opportunity so that conservation gains can be both highly leveraged and strategic.  CCT also works in places where donors direct their gifts.  In all of its grant-making, CCT strives to:

  • protect large landscapes
  • implement innovative land conservation approaches
  • leverage CCT dollars with public and private funds
  • achieve collaboration among the conservation partners

CCT’s Approach
Multiple grants are strategic.  A package of grants that have a focus and help achieve a broader goal through several simultaneous approaches (e.g., transactions, capacity-building, planning, information) is strategic.  Each grant within the package must have a specific and achievable objective and be able to leverage more than the sum of the parts, or individual grants.

The opportunity must be ripe.  CCT’s involvement must help jump-start the project, keep a nascent effort from faltering, move an organization beyond traditional approaches, and/or engage a community in building the necessary information, planning and policy foundations to conserve land.
