Front Range Mountain Backdrop
The Front Range, stretching from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs, is characterized by landscapes encompassing canyons, foothills, mountain vistas, shortgrass prairies and agriculture land. As the cost of preservation increases every day and as an increasing number of homes are built along the backdrop, CCT is committed to protecting key landscapes in this region. CCT’s contributions and efforts in this area include:
- Providing critical funds to secure an option on the keystone parcel in the Laramie Foothills. These funds helped secure a partnership with a number of other non-profit and funding agencies, including Great Outdoors Colorado, to complete a $22.3 million conservation project in Larimer County. Funds were used to protect two working ranches, totaling 16,900 acres, which are part of a larger 55,000-acre conservation project stretching from the Wyoming border to Fort Collins.
- Funding for a conservation assessment that identified high priority lands and other conservation needs in El Paso County. This assessment helped establish a local private fund for conservation at the Pikes Peak Community Foundation.
- Funding to the Legacy Land Trust to expand its land preservation efforts.
Additional High Priority Needs/Next Steps:
- Increase private investment to protect the most critical lands with the highest recreational, ecological and scenic values
